The cable guidelines were not attached in the optimum way. 2. The wind was surging, causing the cable to sway - made worse by (1) above 3. At age 73, his physical strength was not good enough (given (1) and (2) above. His vast experience told him the game was up. He tried to grab the wire. In his younger days he could have held on, and perhaps slid down one of the guide wires. But at his age he was was too slow, and/or lost his grip.......... It was very sad, his fall lasted only 5 seconds and he didn't suffer. A great man, to be remembered. There were 3 factors involved, and all 3 were needed to cause his death.
