That sounds like a very entertaining experience; a good family memory. People watching is a great family bonding adventure.

I think meeting celebrities is hit and miss; it really depends on who you meet. Once, I got to meet a couple members from one of my favorite reggae bands called Steel Pulse. They seemed sober, genuinely humble and even said the best part of performing was meeting the fans. When you meet someone famous you never really know who you are going to meet

I was there are had a great time.
Meat and beer are OK with me, and what I expected.
Pat's never forgotten "who" I am, but I have to say that for a guy who has met as many people as he has, with the schedule he keeps, he does quite well. To put that in perspective, I can't remember some of my relatives names.
I seem to remember there being some kind of vegan "meats" as I asked the guy grilling and he responded likewise.
It is possible that Pat had it added to the list and forgot. I could see that happening. It's alot to juggle considering what the band does as well as trying to have a life.
I'd have to say that what I got that weekend, in terms of a picnic and entertainment, was well worth the price of admission. But then again, I drink, I eat meat and I like live music.
No, I'm not just being a "fan" or contradictory. Maybe the whole thing was just not your thing.
Better luck next year.

The illustration is great and the story absorbing. It reminds of the film 'Breaking Away' about the young man's disillusion upon meeting his revered Italian cycle team. Thanks for sharing.

I actually like the Smithereens, more or less. But I would not be eating hot dogs in their backyard. Great story!

I dislike meeting celebrities whose work I admire. The human being always disappoints when compared to the photoshopped/soft focused creature that exists in the fantasy world of TV, movies, radio, magazines, etc.

Keep 'em at a distance. They smell better and aren't rude, or stupid or otherwise filled with human frailties.

I find this system works well with some family members and business associates, too.
